FREQUENTIS - Committed to Air Traffic Control
Frequentis supplies highly-available communication and information solutions to the civil air traffic control market. This is the high-tech company’s core business and Frequentis is the global market leader in voice communication systems for air traffic control. With headquarters in Vienna, the Frequentis Group employs around 800 specialists and engineers in over 50 countries.
The excellent engineering quality of Frequentis systems and the company's detailed understanding of safety-critical processes underpin many success stories outside civil aviation, as evidenced by projects in public safety & transport, maritime, and defence markets.
Supplier of Complete Solutions and an Integrator
Motivated by these achievements, Frequentis has continued to expand its portfolio and evolved into a provider of complete solutions with outstanding competence in integration: a supplier that delivers both standard products and customized solutions.
The three core activities of Frequentis in civil air traffic control are communication systems, tower automation systems, and information systems. The company’s comprehensive product range covers all the central requirements of air traffic control. Voice and data switches, network solutions, back-up systems, recording systems, and information management and display systems form a broad and flexible product base for integration with radio, flight plan or radar systems.
Absolutely Secure Communication Solutions
The source of the company’s enormous success is the Frequentis VCS (Voice Communication System) 3020X. Extremely high reliability, connection setup in the millisecond range and simple, intuitive user interfaces are the hallmarks of this system. Deployed in more than 13,000 operator positions worldwide, the VCS is a firm favourite of customers working in safety-relevant sectors.
Air traffic management around the world relies on Frequentis systems, whether in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and Oceania or the Americas. One of the most complex VCS projects ever implemented was at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport (Aéroports de Paris), Europe's second-largest passenger hub.
Further core products include VCX Network Solutions providing reliable connectivity between ATM entities while reducing operational costs and the advanced recording solution DIVOS 3 log with full integration into the Frequentis product portfolio.
DIVOS 3 log - The confidential multimedia blog of all information and communication: Voice recording was the automated shorthand typist, and most information systems have their own cryptic logfiles. Their interpretation and correlation was a difficult and time consuming miracle. DIVOS 3 log ties into any system by either direct capturing any relevant data and communication or synchronises with other recording solutions. The new investigation user interface Xpose provides the most intuitive and efficient tool for incident investigation, training and performance respectively workflow optimisation. The rapid grow in market share and satisfied customer are the best evidence for the right investment into the future.
Tower Automation Systems - A Platform for Efficient Information Processing
With its TAPtools® (Tower and AirPort tools), Frequentis offers a modular product range that is tailored to meet all the task-related needs of air traffic controllers. The integration of available data, other applications like CCTV and its uniform presentation on the user’s display help controllers absorb information much faster. TAPtools® for weather data, the Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS), NAVAID Status, Lighting Control and electronic flight strips (smartStrips) simplify the controller's work and increase each individual's efficiency.
Austrocontrol, Finavia, New Zealand, Brazilian air traffic control and the Nigeria Safe Tower Project all ordered examples of such systems, with each project featuring unique integrated solutions for complete tower communication and information infrastructures.
Information Systems
The Frequentis AIS (Aeronautical Information System) has proven itself throughout Europe. Airlines, airports and all member states of Eurocontrol and ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) benefit from the advantages provided by EAD (European AIS Database). This Frequentis-operated database provides centralized flight information data, and the same system is now operating with great success in Canada.
User-centred Information Systems for Area Control Centres: NATS chose Frequentis as the electronic flight data supplier for the NATS centres in Scotland and the Terminal Control Centre in Swanwick. EFD (Electronic Flight data Display), built on smartStrips®, will increase safety, boost efficiency and reduce operating costs. Outstanding usability characterizes the product, with NATS and Frequentis cooperating closely on the final design. The current success follows on from an earlier contract which Frequentis won in 2007, in which NATS decided to utilise the User Interface Centre of Frequentis for the User Interface Design and Development Programme for Future Air Traffic Tools. The first phase defining the scope of delivery and the second phase working on the “Future Controller User Interface” have now been completed.
